Hello and welcome to my wiki on education. I have been teaching in elementary and middle schools since 1994. I have really enjoyed being an educator. I have worked at schools in Redcliffe - Queensland, Noosa - Queensland and now at an international school in Suwon - South Korea. All three schools that I haved worked at are excellent schools and I feel very lucky that I have been able to work in great working environments.
I have always learned best by doing hands on activities. I haven't had much to do with wikis, so the best way for me to learn how to use a wiki, is to create a wiki. That is how this wiki got started.
I can record some of my thoughts on education. I created a wiki for the students to record their findings on ecosystems. You can find the weblink listed under links on the navigation page.
To make a very obvious statement - the internet and technology have really changed the face of education in the past 15 years. There are so many wonderful resources on the internet, and teachers all over the world are uploading lesson ideas, which has enhanced the teaching and learning in the classroom. The real challenge is to make education for the students in our schools relevant and that will grab their attention. These students have a grown up with computers around them all of the time.
It is difficult to imagine where computers and technology will go in the future. The one thing that I do know, is that we need to teach the students to be confident users of technology, so that they have the confidence and ability to try out the new technology and apply it in their lives.
